New Year, New Business?!

Happy New Years to all!  For those that don't know us personally, I'd like to introduce myself and my wife.  We are Brian and Caroline Cox and we are the owners and videographers of Caddy & Co. Productions.  We're both originally from the mountains of North Carolina, the Asheville area to be more specific.

We met in Raleigh in 2012 and relocated to Charlotte in the summer of 2013.  We recently settled down in a new home in Huntersville which is just north of the Queen City. Today, I want to take a moment to share a little about our path to forming Caddy & Co.

After attending Appalachian State University, Caroline moved to Raleigh in 2012 - just a few months before I graduated from NC State.  We actually met just 6 weeks before I was set to graduate and, from the first date, we both recognized we had something special.  After moving to Charlotte a few months later, Caroline found herself back in school and I found myself facing the real world.

In September of that year, I got a job working at a bank. After almost three full years of that job, I realized something needed to change and Caroline was nothing but supportive.  She ultimately helped me overrule my safe and pragmatic thinking and told me to resign and find the thing I truly loved.

After buying our first home in 2015, I found myself always researching other homes and opportunities even after we moved in.  Our agent, Robin Senter of Senter & Company, was incredible to work with and quickly became my mentor in pursuing my license.  She told me to get my license and I'd have spot on her team.  Talk about a hook up!  She's one of the best and highest producing agents in the area and she was a one-man-band at the time.

In August of 2016, I joined her and her husband, Kevin, and we hit the ground running.  Admittedly, they're producing at a level I still can't Fathom! I love working in real estate and I keep an active license, but overtime I discovered that I was missing a creative outlet.  I grew up and went through college with a dated notion that I'd work in the same industry for 40+ years, retire and play golf every day until my time on Earth was up.  But I was left wanting for more and lacking a certain level of personal fulfillment.

These realizations eventually led me to videography... Caroline's best friend was getting married in September of 2017.  They had decided not to hire a videographer for their wedding so I told Caroline that I'd like to film their wedding for them.  For some reason, they agreed!  While in college I worked on several video projects for work, school, clubs and just for fun.  Working on their wedding reminded me how much I enjoyed that process.

To provide even more background, I'll speak quickly to our own wedding.  We too, due to budgetary constraints, weren't going to have a videographer at our wedding.  During the wedding planning process, I often found Caroline watching wedding highlights on Vimeo until the wee hours of the morning.  I knew then, I'd have to figure out a way to make sure we had one there.  I did some research and found quotes ranging from $3,000 all the way to $7,000! Yikes!

I ultimately found a videographer that fit our limited budget and hired him.  He did good work, but delivered the final product late (6 months instead of 6 weeks after the wedding) and was very hard to get a hold of throughout the process.  We've since discovered he's no longer in business due to several other couples experiencing the same issues. Unfortunately, we've learned that many couples experience the same frustration with vendors.

Once I finished work on Lee (Caroline's friend) and Ed's video, I couldn't ignore the growing feeling that I loved working on it and that I was pretty good at it too!  Caroline must've agreed because she posed the question to me, "Why not us?"  Here we are, several months later with newly purchased equipment and several successful projects under our belt.

Caddy & Co. is named for our sweet puppy "Caddy."  In true millennial fashion, we named a business after the dog (who fills up our entire social media content anyways).

We'd love the chance to work with you on your wedding!  We also handle special events, corporate events, engagements/proposals (if the asker is planning the ultimate surprise for the askee), and small business content creation!

To our family and friends, thank you so much for your support and belief in us!  To our future clients, thank you as well for choosing us!  We look forward to a great first year in 2018!

Happy New Year!
